Para conseguir ângulos inusitados do Rio de Janeiro, o fotógrafo Rafael Duarte já subiu no braço do Cristo Redentor, no teto do bondinho do Pão-de-Açúcar, na marquise do Maracanã e sobrevoou a Pedra da Gávea de Asa Delta, entre outras aventuras.

A sinergia entre o natural e o urbano é o ponto de partida para o fotógrafo criar imagens diferenciadas de tudo que já foi feito sobre a “Cidade Maravilhosa”. Em 2019, na lançou na Cinza Photogallery, o livro “Rio”, totalmente em preto e branco, e um dos melhores já feitos sobre o Rio de Janeiro.

O trabalho de criação e planejamento é um dos segredos de Rafael. Ele idealiza as imagens e faz tudo para viabilizá-las. Para conseguir subir até o Pão-Açúcar, viajando no teto do bondinho, como James Bond no filme “Moonraker”, Rafael esperou meses pela autorização. Mas valeu a pena, pois conseguiu uma fantástica foto, com as engrenagens do bondinho em primeiro plano, contrastando com a natureza do Pão-de-Açúcar ao fundo.

Quando fotografou o Maracanã, foram 2 anos de espera pela autorização para acessar a passarela dos refletores sob a cobertura do estádio. A espera também foi bem recompensada. O sol formou uma bela sombra oval sobre o gramado e lá de cima podia-se avistar o Cristo Redentor, o que não acontece do espaço reservado ao público. E para dar o toque final na composição, surge de repente um prosaico cortador de grama solitário, fazendo contraponto com o templo das multidões totalmente deserto.

Na foto que fez de cima do braço do Cristo Redentor, Rafael também contou uma ajuda dos céus. Por alguns segundos, a estátua ficou envolta por nuvens, foi o suficiente para ele fazer a incrível foto que está na capa do seu livro “Rio”.

Rafael Duarte é autor também dos livros “Expedição Miramundos” (2013), “Abrolhos – Terra e Mar” (2016) e “Trilha Transcarioca” (2017). Em 2015, fez a exposição individual “Simplesmente Rio”, no Centro Cultural da Justiça Federal, durante o Foto Rio, em homenagem ao aniversário de 450 anos do Rio de Janeiro.

A fotografia de aventura e de viagem são suas especialidades. Além de fotógrafo Rafael Duarte, é também jornalista e já dirigiu documentários sobre expedições ao Montblanc e Everest.

To get unusual angles of Rio de Janeiro, the photographer Rafael Duarte climbed on the arm of Christ the Redeemer, on the roof of the Sugarloaf cable car, on the Maracanã Station marquee and flew over the Pedra da Gávea on a hang glider, among other adventures.

But it was worth it, because he made a fantastic shot, with the cable car gears in the foreground, contrasting with the nature of Sugar Loaf in the background.

To access the reflectors line at the top of Maracanã Football Stadium, he waited 2 years for authorization. The wait was, also, very well rewarded. The sun formed a beautiful oval shade over the grass and from above there was even the view of the Christ, which is not seen from the space reserved for the public. And to add the finishing touch to the composition, a prosaic lonely grass mower suddenly appears, contrasting with the temple of the crowds completly empaty.

In the photo he took from the arm of Christ the Redeemer, Rafael also had a little help from the sky. For a few seconds, the statue was shrouded in clouds, it was enough for him to make the amazing photo that is on the cover of his book “Rio”.

Rafael Duarte is also the author of the books “Miramundos Estrada” (2013), “Abrolhos – Terra e Mar” (2016) and “Trilha Transcarioca” (2017). In 2015, he made the solo exhibition “Simply Rio”, at the Cultural Center of Federal Justice, during the event Foto Rio, in honor of Rio de Janeiro’s 450th anniversary.
